INTAKE
RUNNER COATINGS
Two
different coatings are used on intake runners depending if
they see wet flow or dry flow conditions. The base coating
is an insulating thermal barrier that also produces a very
smooth finished layer. The main objectives of this coating
are to keep the fuel/air charge as cool as possible by minimizing
the heat transfer from the engine to the charge producing
a denser mixture and to smooth out the port increasing flow.
We have seen a two percent improvement in flow on 18 degree
Chev Bow Tie heads. We use this coating for dry flow applications
and as a base for our fuel dispersion coating. The dispersion
coating is used for wet flow applications, its main objective
is to prevent fuel from clinging to the walls and floors of
the port. Wet flow testing has revealed approximately a 30
percent reduction of fuel on the walls and floor producing
a more uniform fuel/air mixture.
